"Empowered. Breathtaking. Natural. A breath of fresh air for the senses."
"Ariana Grande’s striking new fragrance, God is a Woman, is inspired by the grand power of nature. A breath of fresh air for the senses and composed of 91% naturally derived ingredients, the fragrance is vegan, clean, and cruelty-free. This addicting, new scent will envelop you from head to toe"
I have a love/hate thing with the Ariana Grande line of perfumes going on, as whilst her actual fragrances can be nice, the longevity & Aura haven't tended been anything to particularly praise.
I didn't even bother to try GIAW as the unappealing name and ugly presentation are very off-putting for me, however I happened to recieve a bottle as a pre- Christmas gift, so here we are with another review for her brand...
God Is A Woman [why pick such a cringy name, when she knows full well that she's offending some of her own fans with it?] is really pleasant, despite the horrible presentation. Someone actually decribed it on me a a "clean candy floss", and I have to agree with that description; it applies with a gorgeously authentic pear note, mild Marshmallow, and a unidentified berry. Fresh & watery juiciness, with a light touch of airy sweetness in the background.
The sweetness quickly becomes a bit more intense as the vanilla note developes alongside the floral heart. The heart is very much like Ariana's earlier releases; watery & powdery at the same time, with only a whisper of rose being the only easily identifiable note. Possibly peony too?
I'd say that GIAW borrows heavily from the brand's earier pom-pom bottle releases when it comes to the base too; a breeze of musk infused sandalwood is the only tell that we're in the final stretch. The long lasting opening notes are still stronger comparedtotheheart & base notes, making the blend seem quite linear.
Official scent notes: Pear, ambrette (Musk Mallow), orris, Turkish rose, sandalwood and Madagascar Vanilla.
As I said in the opening, the Ariana Grande fragrances don't have good a good longevity or strong aura in general, but GIAW is easily the worst; I'd estimate that it'll need refreshing every two to three hours. For the first hour other people can pick up on it, but after that I can barely detect it let alone expect anyone else to. Such a shame about the quiet aura and poor longevity, as the fragrance is lovely thanks to the authentic-seeming pear & sweet/clean balance and I have recieved a few compliments when I've worn it. A shame that it vanishes so quickly; this is a fragrance to layer with a stronger perfume, not one I'd recommend wearing alone.
P.S. I think that If Ariana was really bothered about her new edp using substantial resources, then she should have just used recycled packaging and not bothered with the plastic accents on the bottle.
God Is A Woman is available in 30ml bottles (£28), 50ml bottles (£36), and 100ml bottles (£48).
It is sold in most mainstream mass market fragrance retailers, such as in Boots, Superdrug, The Perfume Store, and The Fragrance Shop.
