Two palettes, one look: the Jackie Aina & Carli Bybel palettes, by Anastasia Beverly Hills.

I've been making sure to make use out of all of the eyeshadows I have in my trimmed down collection and that sometimes means using more than one palette at a time. 

Today's post will hopefully inspire someone to make their palettes go that little bit further too.

When I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Jackie Aina eyeshadow palette again recently, after avoiding it for half a year since I found the mattes hard to work with, I had more luck using it and thought the resulting look was actually decent. 

So; do the eyeshadows perform better with a bit of age? Was it a fluke? Benefit of taking a break to cool down, before trying again?

I've finally mustered up the patience to try the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Jackie Aina eyeshadow palette again; if you've read my review, then you know that I'm not a fan of the matte shades in it and I had to take a break from using it, as the problematic mattes frustrated me. However I removed the palette from my last declutter pile at the last minute [the shimmers are stunning], so I'm about to try really hard to make this palette work for me...

I'm feeling in an autumn mood today, as it has been dull & a bit chilly in the mornings... Oh heck, I don't need an excuse - I love autumnal looks and wear them in all seasons.

The Carli Bybel palette came out shortly after the Jackie Aina palette [and the trilogy of large Norvina Pro ones], so I think of it as the Christmas 2019 palette. Like with the Jackie Aina palette, I was underwhelmed by the appearance of the Carli Bybel palette, as the shades are ones that have already been in past palettes from the brand. 

However [again, like the Jackie Aina palette] I unexpectedly received the Carli Bybel for Christmas, so have spent the last few months trying every shade in the palette. How has it worked out?

For the autumn 2019 season, popular YouTube influencer Jackie Aina released a eyeshadow palette with an old favourite brand of mine,  Anastasia Beverly Hills. I actually never bought this palette; it's a appealing colour story, but the shades remind me of ones that have already appeared in past palettes, which dampened my interest in it.  

But now, unexpectedly, it's been in my hands for a few months [it was a Christmas present], so we're going to find out if I judged the palette too harshly, based on nothing but photos...

EOTD: Subculture, by Anastasia Beverly Hills.

I did a few yellow-centered looks when testing my Natasha Denona Sunrise eyeshadow palette [which will be reviewed in my next post - I'm getting all mega posh 😜], which put me in the mood to look through my makeup collection for some of my favourite yellow tones for a similar look to what will be with the upcoming review...

Subculture is one of my favourite palettes for quality and the colour story, but I'd not used it for ages because it's being discontinued and I don't want to use it up. However, I do know that amounts to leaving the palette to go to waste, which is kinda dumb, so as you can currently still buy the palette, I want to share this new combo idea as inspiration to people who have or are thinking of getting Subculture.

I thought I'd keep things real on the blog, by sharing a recent look that didn't really work out. Having clear photos of it available does help me see where I went wrong, so it's a good idea to post things like this for future reference...

I went to the live concert that is part of Manchester's Pride Festival weekend and decided to try to recreate the 'reverse smokey eye look' I'd just watched YouTuber BeautBean do, as it looked quick n easy, yet impactful on her - because recreating a look without having ever attempting the technique before, is a recipe for success. 

Sigh...

My HG; powder bronzer in Tawny, by Anastasia Beverly Hills...

I recently mentioned that ABH's Tawny bronzer is my favourite and I thought that I'd review it today, since I never got round to reviewing it last year when it launched.

I have a fair skintone [I go between the lightest & second lightest shades in foundations] and struggle with bronzer; I have to be very careful with application and blending with them, as bronzers all seem to turn orange on me. I was very keen to try ABH bronzer in the shade Tawny as Stefanie Nicole was wearing it in a video she made reviewing the line. Since I find her opinions honest & valid and she has a similar skintone and type to me, I jumped on the bronzer as soon as it launched in the UK.


At the time, I'd really wanted to find a new bronzer that gave my skin a non-dirty sun-kissed glow, without needing to spend 5 to 10 minutes fussing over my application.

This is the story of me finding that HG product...

Have we reached Norvina?

Ohh, today we have another Anastasia Beverley Hills palette that hasn't received a lot of love from the bigger voices in review land. Seeing how I continue to love Subculture, which was ripped to shreds by the most influential 'beauty guru's' (I know it's 'influencer' now, but I hate that term), I instantly became interested in the Norvina eyeshadow palette and wanted to see if this would also be a hit for me.

Fast forward from the launch last year, to now; I recieved the Norvina palette for Christmas and have spent the last few months getting to know each and every shade, and have now worn every one at least twice...

The Marmite of the eyeshadow world: The Subculture eyeshadow palette by Anastasia Beverley Hills...

Ahh; ABH had been teasing us for months with pictures of the Subculture palette on social media and I instantly fell in love with the shade selection, so I jumped on it upon it's release. However I then saw the shit-storm on YouTube with people way more skilled in makeup saying how horrible it was to work with, so I became almost scared to use it.

But I needed to try it to find out if it was something that I'd need to hurry up and return because I just wasn't able to make it work. Well, I've made up my mind, so get the big drumroll ready...
