Wetter is better... [reviewing Toy 2 Pearl edp, by Moschino]

The iconic Moschino teddy bear has had an ethereal makeover! A distinctively fresh new fragrance!

Inspired by Tahitian mother of pearl, Toy 2 Pearl is a fragrance of simultaneous whimsy and opulence. Its scents are familiar yet fantastical and the citrus accord emerges in two forms as the initial wave of sharp lemon is followed by sweet sherbet which gently bubbles to the surface.

The zesty opening is followed by elegant heart notes of jasmine, sand and freesia reminiscent of an island paradise surrounded by crystal blue waters before rounding off with sweet vetiver and invigorating cypress.

I'd been looking forward to .thisfragrance ever since I first read about it, but it took a while to show up and I'd stopped looking. I came across it in Superdrug when I intended to rebuy the regular edition of Toy 2, but my original intention was instantly forgotten in favour of getting my hands on a bottle of Pearl since my first impressions of it were positive.

How will I feel about it after a month's worth of all day wear.   o

Pearl opens with lemon, grapefruit & lime, with a drop of honey to sweeten the tart fruit a touch. I don't know what accord they used to make the fruit notes seem iced, but the effect is very realistic. The beachy & warm solar accords developat the same time as the mild & breezy floral notes, giving me the impression of walking through the garden of a swanky beachfront hotel. I get quiet whispers of vetiver, jasmine, freesia, orange blossom & neroli, but for me the solar accords and the lingering fruit are much more prominent.

As the fragrance wears throughout the day, the sunwarmed sand accord changes so that I instead get the sense of wet sand, which brings the ocean floor to mind. The musky woods & oregano replace the fruits and florals, making me think of shipwrecks. A perfect partner to the wet sand accord.

Officially listed scent notes: Lemon, Sorbet, Oregano, Sand, Freesia, Jasmine, Musk, Cypress and Vetiver.

I much prefer Pearl over Bubble Gum - not that I disliked Bubble Gum [I used up my small bottle happily enough], just that I don't feel that it is unique enough to rebuy. Not only is the fragrance more unique, but the longevity & projection are also more impressive; over 12 hours wear, and it never becomes a skin-scent.

You can buy Moschino fragrances fromretailers like Superdrug, Boots, Sephora, The Fragrance Shop and The Perfume Store.
