A flashkick, or a ticket? [reviewing Mod Vanilla Edp, by Ariana Grande]

Modern. Sensual. Disruptive.
Introducing Ariana Grande MOD, the new fragrance collection.

Choose to be an original with MOD, the new fragrance collection from Ariana Grande. A new, elevated collection that celebrates both the power of duality and the intoxicating freedom of expression. Innovative and sexy, the new fragrance duo of Mod Vanilla and Mod Blush create an intimate yet powerful experience.

After the delight of Cloud 2.0, I've been looking forward to the next Ariana Grande perfume release and here we are, with not one but two.

I'm going to start my reviews with the one that is proving to be the most popular, going by empty store displays and the amount of customer reviews everywhere - Mod Vanila.

I've already fallen for the anathetics for the Mod duo, but will the actual fragrances live up to the expectation that this has given me?

Vanilla Mod opens with a lightly fruity/sweet & clean breeze of freesia, with the scent & sensation being boosted with a juicy splash of plum. The clean & airy feel that remains throughput the longevity of this fragrance, comes from light hint of musk.

I can't separate any of the other floral notes in Vanilla Mod as they are so mild; overall I get the same sweet & powdery sensation as I do in other fragrances with a blend of peony, rose, magnolia, violet and orange blossom, so I'm guessing that some [if not all] of those notes have been used in the juice here.

After about two hours Vanilla Mod is like a buttercream cupcake scent-wise thanks to the gentle mix of vanilla, coconut cream & the curious buttery-yet-also-lightly-powdered orris root. Vanilla Mod becomes a close to the skin fragrance rather quickly, which is rather disappointing, since it gets quieter just as it becomes more interesting to me. Frustrating.

Official listed key scent notes; musk, freesia, plum, praline, orris root, vanilla and coconut cream.

Mod Vanilla takes the creamy & sweet base of Cloud 2.0, and couples it with the powdered florals & plum from Moonlight - so if you enjoy those fragrances, you'll most likely enjoy this too. Cloud 2.0 is my favourite Ariana Grande perfume and I also enjoyed Moonlight scent-wise, so I do enjoy Mod Vanilla on one hand, but I'm also a bit disappointed by the lack of originality here. The biggest 'meh' here is the so-so longevity & lack of projection; it wears for around 6 hours and has a quiet aura - I struggle to detect it on myself after 2/3 hours, altough other people have complimented it after up to 6 hours after application

Mod Vanilla is nice enough both alone and as a base underneath another perfume [worn underneath Mod Blush is my preferred way of wearing it], but I wouldn't recommend it unless you see it on  a price offer - I just expected more from half of a not-very-affordable duo, in terms of originality & longevity.

Okay, band aid off; the Mod duos are only available in 100ml bottles costing £53 each, so there has been a price increase coupled with less purchase options. The ideal scenario is that you are meant to buy both perfumes for layering together, so we definitely need smaller & less pricey options for purchasing them - and duo pack options too....

You can purchase Vanilla Mod from the regular retailers that stock Ariana Grande perfumes; Superdrug, Boots, The Perfume Store, The Fragrance Shop etc...
