Christmas and the party season is right around the corner, so I thought that it'd be the perfect time to check out Huda's red-themed palette - after all we've looked at the green one [which also contains a stunning golden shade], so adding this makes for the ultimate festive colour story...

The Ruby Obsessions palette contains four matte shades [ballet pink, wine, raspberry, coral], one satin formula [orange/red], two creamy metallic shades [cool-toned red, muted copper], and two more toned-down frost formulas [light plum with violet shimmer, blackened plum with wine shimmer].

I have made loads of looks using only this palette, so it can be a one-and-done palette, if that is something that is important to you. I've used every shade in this palette a handful of times and think that the shadow formulas are all e easy to work with and all wear well - I've not experienced any staining to date, which really surprised me since there is red in most of the shades.

The red satin and matte shadows feel dry and don't swatch well, but every one works really well when applied to the eyes, and they do wear all day without fading or creasing - the dry formula is a general issue with eyeshadow shades which contain red eyes, so is just something to expect with every brand.

Yes; the shimmery formulas are soft & creamy, so work best applied with a finger or silicone applicator, which is a downside for some. However the brand's owner has always made it known publicly that her shimmer formulas work best with finger application, with every eyeshadow palette release. Not to be a bitch, but why buy a palette which contains shades meant for finger application, if you know you don't like using your fingers for applying makeup? I just don't get it - there are tens of thousands of other brands out there to try, with brush-appropriate shimmer shades, so why money here?

I have, or have had, around a dozen of the Huda Beauty Obsession palettes and the Ruby one is one of my favourites; the shades are more wearable than you'd expect and can be either worked up or worked down, depending on how much of an impact you want to make.

The size & price of the brand's large eyeshadow palettes is halved and the colour story cuts straight to the 'fun' stuff, rather than us having to pay for the same old neutral staples we already have.
